Individual Note 1

In 1901 census he was living in Teilo St, West Cardiff age 4 with his grandmother Jane Leck age 62 and sister Amy age 3. (father and mother at sea ??)

Individual Note 2

From 1908 (age 12) he lived at 1A Teilo Street, Canton, Cardiff and attended Canton Municipal School.

His school report book shows his parent/guardian each term was mainly his grandmother Jane Leck or his mother Ada Milburn, and only very occasionally his father George Milburn.

Individual Note 3

In 1911 census he was living in West Cardiff age 14 with his mother and sister and grandmother.

Individual Note 4

Left school on 29 April 1912 at age 16 and became a draughtsman - he certainly never wanted to become a seaman. He didn't like the sea and didn't want to have anything to do with it (perhaps because his father was away at sea so much during his childhood), so would't go on any seaside holidays with his son George.
